Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (Deemed to be University) was founded in 1986 by late Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran and Dr. Paul Dhinakaran, internationally renowned evangelists, as per their divine vision and cherished desire to serve the humanity through technical education and social service. Since then the institution has rapidly grown and at present there are 452 faculty representing 18 academic departments. The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 2007 and the department has been engaged in imparting the highest level of academic education and quality research. The department offers M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs in Chemistry. Most of the faculty members have rich postdoctoral research experiences and have won recognition in the form of awards and fellowships from various academic bodies both within and outside the country. Their commitment to research is reflected in the large number of projects sponsored by DST, DBT and other agencies. The department hosts advanced technological instruments including UV-Vis, NIR-DRS, FT-IR, NMR, GC, HPLC-MASS, Fluorescence Spectrometer and Electrochemical Workstation. Importantly, the Department focuses on high quality research in the frontier areas of chemistry to solve the human problems related water, health, energy and food.
